Plating Technique on the Stained-Glass Windows
We are fascinated by a state of the art technique used on the windows at Birmingham Cathedral. It appears that the windows in the east end show experimentation in the development in stained-glass. Morris & Co and other stained-glass manfacturers were using a double plating technique of the flesh toned areas of the human figures in the windows. The flesh tones are worked in enamel and today are evident under close inspection and in certain lights. In the daylight of a dull January day the technique was clear to see on The Nativity window.
